THE LOST GIRL

Five years earlier

Mr. and Mrs. Johnes were sitting in front of the officer, weeping inconsolably. “Please calm down sir”, said the SHO of Hillford Police Station, “And tell me what’s the matter.”

“Sir, our daughter, Clara Johnes, went out with her friends last night and has not yet returned home. We are not being able to contact her through the phone. We’re afraid, she’s been kidnapped.”

The officer filed a missing diary and then assured the couple that they would definitely try their best to trace the 15 year old girl. A few days later, after all the investigation was over, the police informed the couple that Clara couldn’t be traced anywhere. Mr. and Mrs. Johnes were broken. It seems that our little child is lost forever, they thought as they left the police station.

Present day

It’s Clara’s 20th birthday. The weather has been gloomy since the morning and there were very frequent power cuts. Mr. and Mrs. Johnes are unusually quiet today. They are not even talking about their lost girl on her birthday.

In the evening, at around 9:00 pm, there was a sudden power outage in the entire town of Hillsford. The noiselessness of the usually busy town was queer.

The earsplitting sound of the telephone made them jump with fright. Mr. Johnes went to receive the call and put it on speaker.

“Hi mom and dad! Its me, Clara! I know that you must have missed me terribly in these last 5 years. But now, you won’t have to wait any longer. You’ll see me at the count of 10. And the countdown starts now.”

Mr. and Mrs. Johnes stared at each other and froze. How could their daughter be alive. They had killed her and buried the dead body in the backyard, five years ago!
