Very few people have the patience to maintain a diary nowadays. The habit of keeping a personal diary and writing regularly in it, has declined over the past few years.
I myself have 3-4 diaries which are just kept for an exhibition… I don’t write in any of them. They have been resting in peace since the day they came to my house.
Why have people stopped writing a diary? The main reason is the many distractions which have come into our lives with the introduction of technology. Our ancestors did not have the opportunity to get engrossed in mobiles, laptops, etc. and hence they had the patience to write a diary.
Nowadays, social media is the ‘public diary’ for everyone. Whenever we want to share our feelings, we make a post in various social media platforms. These will return to us as ‘memories’ in the following years.
Blogging is another way of writing a diary, digitally. It is for the whole world to read, though I admit that it is quite fun.
The other day, during an online class, my teacher was telling us about diary writing. She told us how Anne Frank used to write her diary, named Kitty, daily. I read the Diary of a Young Girl and was truly fascinated and inspired to see her diary entries. I decided to keep a diary but unfortunately, I couldn’t maintain it for more than 2 weeks.
Of course, there are many people who keep a dairy and that is indeed, a lovely habit. In fact, we should all try to build the habit of keeping a diary because it helps us to reflect upon our own lives and also preserve good memories.
